The Refillery Coming Soon to The Plaza District of OKC

The Refillery Coming Soon to The Plaza District of OKC

The Refillery is a second location and new concept brought to you by the owner of the Local Lather Laboratory & Soap Shop, Meg Rinehart. The Lab is located on N. Western Ave. We have been making small batch, handcrafted bath products in Oklahoma City since 2012 and opened our first mobile retail location in 2015. Since then things have really taken off and we are so pleased to bring this important concept to OKC. Opening a bulk refill location that offers lots of personal care and cleaning products is the obvious next step for us for several reasons. We have been refilling our own house products for local customers since 2018. We are refill experts by now! It has been very environmentally impactful and made us very conscious about other ways we could implement sustainability into our business and personal lives. In that way, we will be transparent and say we are still learning and will likely always be striving to make impactful changes with you.

Please Consider Supporting Our Kickstarter:

In pre-pandemic 2020, our plans were to expand our refillable options to include items in high demand from our customers – additional personal care items like shampoo & conditioner, as well as household cleaning supplies & laundry detergent.

For all of the reasons you can imagine… this didn’t happen in 2020. We used the time wisely to finetune our internal processes, save & allocate needed funds, and continue to dream and scheme about the future when bulk refilling could become a reality.

By the end of 2021 we were ready to move forward. I leased the perfect location in OKC in the heart of the Plaza District. Plans were drawn up, a contractor was hired, and I announced my plans to the world on social media!

This is a really good story right? You might be wondering what happened next…

This is where the story becomes themed more like a tragedy. The contractor we hired stole $16,000 from us- completely derailing our plans once again. When I say the word tragedy, there is really no other way to describe the way I felt. In truth, I am no damsel in distress, but I felt like one. If anything like this has ever happened to you, you know the feeling. It's demoralizing to say the least. The whole experience left me wondering if I should just give up- and I truly did consider it. But our story is not over.

Nothing has changed about our passion for this project, our love for Oklahoma City, and all the people in it as excited as we are for doors to The Refillery to open. We are still confident a happy ending is possible!

The success of any small business rests almost entirely on the community that supports it. That’s why a kickstarter just made sense. We need your help to bridge the gap the stolen funds would have covered.
